Escape hot summer days and head up 10,578 feet to the Town of Alma, Colorado – why? To come race with us at the Race in the Clouds – a multisport dirt festival showcasing the breathtaking (literally) beauty and historical heritage of America’s Highest Incorporated Town.
The Race in the Clouds is a multisport race festival that consists of a 30K and 15K mountain bike race, trail half marathon, community 5K and doggie dash, and an off-road duathlon (5K run, 15K mountain bike). All proceeds benefit the Alma Foundation.
The course is a combination of gravel road, steep and “chunky” single track, jeep road (also steep and chunky) and some wonderful flowy trail that meanders through the woods. Each loop has two sustained climbs followed by “I can’t wipe the grin off my face” descents. Given the semi - technical nature of the downhills, this course is not recommended for beginner riders. Trail runners will have no issues.

The Motherlode: You will feel like you struck it rich after conquering this challenging 30K, two loop course. Not for the faint of heart this race has over 3,556 feet of elevation gain.
The Placer: A shorter version of the Motherlode this 15K, one Loop Mountain Bike Race will give you more than a bite sized taste of this rugged and challenging course
The Buckskin Joe: Named after Joe Higgenbottom who famously sold his mining claim in 1850 for a horse, a gun and to pay his whisky bill, the Trail Half Marathon uses the same course at the mountain bike. Runners will climb along Buckskin Creek, be treated to “take breath away” views and will be challenged by technical descents.
The Hoosier Du: Off Road Duathlon (5K run and 15K Mountain Bike). Want to run and ride? This race combines the best of both courses. Do it alone or with a friend, this race will redefine off road multisport!
The Alma Jaynes: 5k Community Run and Doggie Dash (yes, your well behaved, on leash furry, four-legged trail buddy is welcome!)
Event weekend camping is available at the Alma Town Park which sits on the banks of the Middle Fork of the South Fork of the Platt River. The Friday night pre-race pizza party will also be taking place at the Town Park. Both camping and the pizza party can be purchased with your registration.
